Slipstream manages Menzies Family Fun Day

On September 2nd, Slipstream took on the challenge of bringing something unique to the Menzies Annual Southeast Region Family Fun Day.

In addition to supplying the Bar, Catering, Venue, Toilets, First Aid and a variety of bouncy castles and outdoor games, we were asked to find something different for the well renowned (and highly competitive) inter-office challenge.

In previous years, the firm had always had an “It’s a knockout” style game, but this year wanted a change, an imaginative new game to play, and they called the right people.

We arranged for a circus company to swoop in and spend a couple of hours teaching their skills to the competitors from juggling and Diablo throwing to balloon modelling and stilt-walking.  After lunch the inter-office teams were faced with a ‘Generation Game’ style competition, judged by their children and spouses the harshest of all critics).

‘I wanted to say a huge thank you. Slipstream did themselves proud. It was a thoroughly well organised event. I couldn’t have done it without them!’
Alan Jordon, Partner, Menzies.

Employing an Event Management company, doesn’t necessarily cost you anything!

Unless you are a large company which hosts a number of events each year, the chances are that when the time comes for a product launch, your annual conference, or Christmas party, the job of making it happen will fall onto one of the admin team.  What’s the point in paying an event management company to do it when you can get one of your existing staff to do it for free?

The point is, organizing an event of any scale takes time and to coin an old phrase, ‘time is money’.  Surely, you employ every member of staff you have because you need them to do a specific job? If they then spend 20 hours organizing your annual conference, that’s 20 hours that have spent not doing their job. If you pay that person £10 an hour, it has instantly cost you £200 that doesn’t get mentioned in the event budget.

It is very easy to get swamped when organizing an event. You decide that you want to include some team building at your conference, so your nominated member of staff starts to look at what is available using the internet.  2 hours later, they have a list of team building companies to call and get quotes from.  Having made 20 phone calls, you now know what these companies charge, and a vague idea of what they will provide, so you pick one because it’s the cheapest, or because hey had a good sales pitch, or because it was number 7 on the list, and that’s your lucky number!  Then when it comes to the day, the company you have employed doesn’t quite live up to your expectations.  And that is just the team building sorted. Next you need a venue, catering, staging, sound systems, AV equipment, lighting…. The list goes on!

If you were to hand over the management of your event to an event management company, the bottom line cost does not necessarily increase. Yes there will be a management fee within the budget, but because we use the supply companies throughout the year, we are able to command a better deal.  It will also only take us a few phone calls to get the right services and equipment arranged, as we have spent years building lists of trusted suppliers, who we know will get the job done to the highest standard.

We would also be able to advise whether your plans are actually practical and give you ideas on how to make your event a success.

When it comes to the day, the event managers will be there to ensure everything runs smoothly, leaving you and your staff to enjoy a high quality event.
